Albert Tufnell Robson 1845-1914

Albert Robson was born in West Waltham, Essex to George and Anne Robson. By 1851, the family were living in Paddington and from July 1864, Albert was a Ensign in the 92nd (Gordon Highlanders) Regiment of Foot with whom he would serve in India, being promoted to Lieutenant in May 1867 and to Captain by 1881 and Major in 1889. Eventually, he was made Lieutenant Colonel in the 4th (Militia) Battalion of the Essex Regiment by 1891, and retired within the next ten years. Unhappily, he died on 5th August 1914, having hanged himself. His suicide note read β€œThe Strain of this terrible crisis (the First World War) is too much for me. I feel I am too old in my seventieth year to do anything for my country, and only make an additional mouth to feed. Therefore, I had better go at once.” He never married and left no issue.
