Charles Bridger (1834-1894)

Charles was born in Broadwater, Sussex. He became an Ensign in the Royal Sussex Light Infantry Militia in 1855 and was promoted to Lieutenant later that year. In 1859, he married Frances Amelia Thomas, a young widow, in a double wedding with Charles’s cousin William and Frances’s sister. The marriage eventually produced three daughters and three sons. In January 1861, he was promoted to Captain and by 1878 was an Honorary Major. He eventually retired from the Royal Sussex Militia in 1884 and was granted the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He survived his wife by two decades and died in Tisbury Road, Hove on Boxing Day 1894.
