How a nation treats its dead fighting men is a telling barometer. The graves of the majority of those who have died for their country since August 1914 are the responsibility of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

But what of those who fell in previous conflicts - in the Seven Years War, the Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, and the various wars of empire?
